Quill Lake Student wins 2nd Place at Canadian National 4-H

​Justin Harcourt, a grade 12 student from Quill Lake School, was recently awarded 2nd place overall at the Canadian National 4-H and Youth Judging competition. The competition was held November 29th - December 1st at Canadian Western Agribition in Regina. It included 45 competitors from across Canada including 6 universities, 3 agricultural fairs, and 8 qualifiers from Team 4-H Saskatchewan.  

Competitors judged 12 categories including water quality, silage, meat, alpaca, Charolais bull calves, Commercial bull calves, Speckle Park heifer calves, Angus bred heifers, Prospect steers, milking dairy cows, light horse and heavy horse. They then did oral reasons for 8 of those categories in front of judges who specialized in those areas. 

The Grand Aggregate winner was Adam Smith, University of Guelph.  

Justin Harcourt finished in 2nd place overall and received a $1250 scholarship, as well as a belt buckle from Canadian Western Agribition. He had top points in 3 categories (Charolais bull calves, Speckle Park heifer calves and Alpaca).

The Top Team Award (top 4 scores on a team) went to 4-H Saskatchewan. The team included:
