Horizon Board of Education Holds Organizational Meeting

Humboldt, SK – The Horizon School Division Board of Education held its annual organizational meeting on Wednesday, November 2. Votes were cast for the Board's table officer positions of Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson. Jim Hack, trustee for Subdivision 10, will remain in the role of Board Chair and Wil Lengyel, trustee for Subdivision 7, will remain as Vice-Chair.

"I would like to thank my fellow trustees for electing me to this position," said Mr. Hack. "I appreciate their confidence in me and look forward to the great work, commitment and guidance of Horizon's new and returning trustees as we continue our support of students, families, staff and communitites."

Mr. Hack has served as Board Chair for Horizon School Division since 2011. As trustee for Subdivision 10, he represents the communities of Ituna School, Foam Lake Composite High School and Foam Lake Elementary School. Mr. Lengyel previously served as Vice-Chair from 2011-2014 and 2015-2016. As trustee for Subdivision 7, Mr. Lengyel represents the communities of Archerwill School, Rose Valley School, Robert Melrose School and Kelvington High School.

"I am grateful for the support of the Board and for the opportunity to serve as Vice-Chair for another year," Mr. Lengyel said. "Horizon's past Board has overseen a great deal of progress and improvement, and I am honoured to be a part of moving that forward."

"Following this year's Board election, we have seven new trustees and seven returning for another term," said Horizon's Director of Education, Kevin C. Garinger. "The organizational meeting was the first chance we've had to bring everyone together, and we couldn't be more excited to continue our important work with this Board in support of Horizon's students."

Horizon's Board of Education is made up of 14 publicly elected trustees representing Subdivisions from across Horizon. The organizational meeting of the Board is held each calendar year in accordance with the Education Act. At this meeting, trustees determine the Board's table officers, indemnity rates, incidental rates and other organizational items. This year, the meeting was preceded by a swearing-in ceremony for newly-elected Board members.
