September 1, 2021 - a message from Kevin C. Garinger, Director of Education

September 01, 2021

Good morning!

Well, the first day of school is here and it is always the most exciting day for us in education. We have been looking forward to having our children back on our buses, in our libraries, in our hallways, and in our classrooms. The start of this year has been unlike any other I can recall. There has been some unrest, unease, and opposition to the strategy that we have in place to safeguard the health of everyone. In all of the angst, I know we understand both sides and that both sides address the issue from a position of love and care for children.

It is true…no one WANTS anyone to have to wear a mask, especially our children. If an adult could wear a mask all day so our children wouldn’t have to, I don’t know any of us who wouldn’t try to be the first to say “pick me”. Unfortunately, this isn’t our option so we will ensure masking when we need to and we will remind and help our children to develop that routine through the love and care that each of you has in your hearts and that you display through your actions on an hour by hour, minute by minute basis.

There is one constant that will eventually move the angst to calm and the upset to acceptance…and that constant is YOU! You, the staff of Horizon School Division are the reason our children will be safe and our parents will be at ease. You are the reason why our students will improve in all things learning. You are the reason why our buses and schools are the amazing places they are…EVERY DAY.

So amid all the noise that truly comes from concern for children, the Board and I have our own calm knowing you get to go to work today and do what you do best…LOVE YOUR STUDENTS!

AND we also know this…THEY are so excited to see you!

Have a wonderful day, Horizon! Make it the best startup and year yet!!

- Kevin
