February 10, 2016 – For Immediate Release
Humboldt, SK – On February 10, 2016, Education Deputy Minister Julie MacRae visited the Horizon School Division central office to commemorate the 10th anniversary of amalgamation. This visit coincided with the regular monthly meeting of the Horizon Board of Education. Trustees joined with the Deputy Minister, Horizon office staff and several Horizon students to celebrate this milestone.
"We have seen many changes in the last decade and our commitment to student success has remained our top priority throughout," said Board Chair, Jim Hack. "I would like to thank the incredible staff members across our system who have contributed to our growth and success over the years, as well as our past and present Board Trustees for their continued dedication to our schools, students and communities. I would also like to extend the appreciation of our Board to Deputy Minister MacRae for joining us to mark this special occasion."
Grade 1-4 students from Watson School were invited to take part in the celebration, meeting with the Deputy Minister and witnessing Horizon's Board of Education in action during their regular meeting.
"Our students are the reason for everything we do and we were thrilled to invite them to this celebration," said Horizon Director of Education, Kevin Garinger. "As our school division looks to the future, we also look back and appreciate the tireless work of everyone over the last decade involved in Horizon's continued success."
In 2006, Horizon School Division was formed through the amalgamation of 6 former school divisions. These legacy divisions include Humboldt School Division, Humboldt Rural School Division, Lakeview School Division, Lanigan School Division, Sask Central School Division and Wakaw School Division.
