Students at Annaheim School
performed their annual Christmas Concert on December 14th. The concert started out with the junior choir performing two songs, followed by two songs by the senior choir. This is the first year that Annaheim School has had choir, and the students, led by Mrs. Novecosky, did a fantastic job.
The K-5 students then presented their play "Peace, Love and Unity: Celebrations from Around the World." In the play, a group of students are talking about their holiday traditions and start to wonder how the rest of their community celebrates the holiday season. They develop a new appreciation for Annaheim as they invite families to share traditions from their cultures. This performance was written by the students based on their research about their family heritage and the holiday traditions from those countries. The students learned a lot about other countries, and were able to bring that information to the community in an entertaining way. In addition to writing and performing the play, the students the entrance and gym with their own artwork that depicted the traditions of various countries from around the world. The students were led through these processes by Miss Gullacher, Mrs. Rohel, Mrs. Novecosky, Ms. Becker, and Mr. Wourms.
The 6/7/8 class then presented "The First Christmas – A Nativity Scene." In this play, the story of the birth of Jesus is retold through seven songs and a recreation of the nativity scene of Mary, Joseph, and Baby Jesus. The students looked and sounded very good, and did a wonderful job of presenting the Christmas story to the audience.
The performance was followed a student art auction. Students from the school's art club have been busy creating holiday-inspired artwork, and this was their chance to show off their products and raise some money for future art projects for the club. It was great to display the talent of our students in this way.
Thank you to everyone who came out to watch the concert. The Christmas spirit was noticeably in the air, as families donated items to the bake sale, as well as "admission" items, which included canned goods and money for the Food Bank, winter clothing items for the Newcomer Centre, and toys for the Kinettes. We received many generous donations that will help people this holiday season.Quill Lake School
