– The Horizon School Division Board of Education has approved the school year calendar for 2019-2020. The calendar can be viewed on the Horizon School Division website, at horizonsd.ca
Development of the calendar involved consultation with employee groups, and the input received during these discussions formed the basis for two proposed calendar options. These draft calendars were shared with principals, staff and School Community Council (SCC) members for feedback, prior to being presented to Horizon's Board of Education. The Board of Education approved the final calendar, upon review of this feedback, at their regular meeting on February 13. Minor changes were needed following that meeting in regards to dates for the annual Horizon Teachers' Association (HTA) convention and other start-up days in the fall.
"I thank our staff, SCCs, and HTA executive for their consulative feedback throughout this school year calendar planning process," said Jim Hack, Horizon Board of Education Chair.
"I am proud of this process, and the fact that we strive to meet the needs of students, families, communities, and staff across Horizon School Division," Horizon's Director of Education, Kevin C. Garinger said.
Highlights of the 2019-2020 Horizon school calendar include:
- 197 Operational Days
