March 28, 2018

In recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (March 21), the Humboldt Regional Newcomer Centre (HRNC) invited students from across Horizon School Division -- and Humboldt's Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools -- St. Dominic School and St. Augustine School -- to enjoy a celebration of First Nations culture, storytelling, song and dance through performances by the Saskatoon Public Schools' Indigenous Ensemble.

There was one performance in the morning and one in the afternoon, each hosted in the HPS gymnasium. Each performance included a story and information about the different styles of dance and song, shared by the event's MC, Mr. Don Speidel. Mr. Speidel is the Cultural Resource Liaison for Saskatoon Public Schools. Each performance was followed by a question and answer session for students, with Mr. Speidel sharing additional information about the ensemble and culture.

Thank you to the HRNC Settlement Workers in Schools for organizing, SPSD's Indigenous Ensemble for the remarkable performances, and HPS for hosting this fantastic opportunity for learning and cultural celebration for students!
